New Book: Social Structure, Power and the Individual, Jorge Chuaqui

Dear Colleagues:

My book, "Social Structure, Power and the Individual" (attached), which was published by RIL in Chile, (Spanish) in 2019 was recently (with authorization) translated into English and published virtually in Canada with the objective of global distribution for English speaking sociologists. I invite you to download the book free of charge and feel free to forward it to your colleagues and students. Our only restriction is that it not be sold. I am including a section of the prologue, which gives an overview the book's content:

"In this book, Professor Jorge Chuaqui and his collaborators have made important new contributions to sociological theory. They provide an adapted Marxian analysis of the State that is applicable to Western Societies including Latin America; offer a unique integration of macro and micro sociology by integrating Marxian, Structural-Functionalist, Weberian and Symbolic-Interactionist concepts; and add a current discussion of social inclusion of the mentally ill and the Psycho-social impact of Covid 19 in Chile.

This book is unique for its grand theoretical scope and masterful integration of macro and micro sociological theories and concepts in its analysis. While it extends Marx's writings on the State, it also applies the theory of Hans Gerth and C. Wright Mills in their book, "Character and Social Structure: The Psychology of Social Institutions." Professor Chuaqui shows us that one must always consider social structure and organizational culture when studying self-fulfillment.

Overall, Professor Chuaqui is to be praised for successfully pursuing this grand, very complex, theoretical analysis and also for skillfully including the work of a wide range of classical theorists in his treatise."
