New Book: The New Latin America, by Fernando Calderón and Manuel Castells

From Adrienn Jelink of Polity Books:

I would like to draw your attention to one of our recent books, The New Latin America. In this book, Fernando Calderón and Manuel Castells provide a systematic and comparative account of the rapid transformations undergone by Latin American countries in the first two decades of the 21st century. They analyse the social and economic processes that underlie these transformations, arguing that the neoliberal model that dominated the first stage of the transformation has given way to a new model that they call ‘neo-developmentalism’. But neo-developmentalism has led to rampant corruption, giving rise to new forms of conflict and political disaffection across the Continent. The book provides a comprehensive and up-do-date account of the new Latin America that is in the process of taking shape today.
