Global Sociologists for Palestine - Activities in Rabat

Dear RC02 members,

The following message from the Global Sociologists for Palestine (GS4P) about their planned activities in Rabat, Morocco might be relevant for those of you attending the upcoming ISA conference.

Greetings on behalf of Global Sociologists for Palestine (GS4P). We are a new group working within the ISA and the global sociology community on behalf of Palestinian liberation. For more information on our principles and activities, please visit our website at https://www.gs4p.org/ . We write with an update on the Rabat Forum and our planned activities there.

As you have most likely been following, the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI) has recently issued a statement on ISA's decision to suspend the Israeli Sociological Society (ISS) over its failure to condemn Israel’s ongoing genocide. You can find the PACBI statement here:

https://bdsmovement.net/news/pacbi-welcomes-isa-suspension-reiterates-palestinian-demands

In support of PACBI's decision, please find our own statement (in English, French, Arabic) here:

https://drive.proton.me/urls/209AYG3ZW0#Y20sFfkxULFK

In brief, we are asking supporters of Palestinian rights to boycott any session that includes persons affiliated with Israeli institutions unless those persons publicly affirm their commitment to Palestinian national liberation and the right of return as outlined in PACBI’s statement.

We are looking forward to seeing many of you in Rabat!

For those of you attending the Forum, again, we strongly encourage you to visit our website https://www.gs4p.org/ for more information. You will find a compact listing of Palestine-relevant panels at the forum at this link, and a full “abstract book” of sociological conversations on Palestine on our website.

Some of us will be distributing our handsome GS4P pins with a watermelon logo, so you can visibly show your solidarity with Palestine.

Join us at our offsite breakfast drop-in, 7:30-8:45am Monday-Friday 7-11 July, Café Sweet, Bayt Al Maarifa, Av. Allal Al Fassi, Rabat, Morocco, https://maps.app.goo.gl/DHTBtnDpxQsCrpRu5 (very close to the conference venue). We will have pins!

Wednesday, 9 July 2025, 7-9pm we will hold an open meeting with GS4P members and other interested folks to engage in a constructive dialogue focused on developing effective strategies within ISA to end the ongoing violence against the Palestinian people in the West Bank, the Gaza Strip, and across the region. Where: Lahcen Moutik Amphitheater, first floor of the National Institute of Statistics and Applied Economics (INSEA) located in Madinat Al Irfane (University Campus) - https://insea.ac.ma/  [https://maps.app.goo.gl/ZkwsYmk3MLXMrWvZ8]

And, we are planning added activities in Rabat during the Forum. To stay up to date, visit our website or stop by our breakfast.

In solidarity,

Chris Tilly, UCLA
