The Global East as Borderland: Networking and Commoning; December 2023

The EARCAG-GPE (East Asian Regional Conference in Alternative Geography _Global Political Economy), scheduled to be held between 12-15 December 2023 at the City University of Hong Kong, Chinese University of Hong Kong, HK, seeks abstracts and panel proposals. With the theme of "The Global East as Borderlands," this conference invites studies navigating their way through the changing geographies of The Global East, including but not limited to: 

  • Borderlands in their process of networking and enabling mobilities, "where opposites flow into one another, where 'strangers' can at the same time be stigmatised and indistinguishable from 'ourselves', 'where de-territorialization interrupts traditional concepts premised on bounded terrains (Deleuze & Guattari, 1987), such as community and citizenship, nation and region.

  • Borderlands in their processes of commoning, where heterogeneous forces gather to constitute new commons in discursive, virtual, material or institutional forms.
