International Sociological Association's Research Committee on Economy & Society

Call for Sessions at 2023 ISA World Congress, DL 10 May 2022

Do you have an idea that will fill an auditorium?

The largest conference that the International Sociological Association organizes is every four years. The last World Congress had 5800 sociologists attend from 113 countries. The 20th ISA World Congress will be a hybrid event held in Melbourne, Australia from Jun 25 – July 1, 2023. RC02 will be hosting many sessions on Economy & Society—and you’ll be hearing additional details on how you can propose your own session in the weeks to follow (the submission window is during the month of May with a May 31 deadline). I hope to see you there.

But let’s think big. This is the time to think about organizing Integrative Sessions of invited speakers on broad topics of interest that could attract an auditorium of sociologists. These are semi-plenary topics that must involve at least two other Research Committees or National Associations and that includes the names of the proposed speakers and their themes. The deadline is fast approaching—May 10, 2022. Details can be found at this PDF.

Or perhaps you have encountered a book published within the past four years that is shaking sociology and could fill an auditorium? The ISA is looking for six semi-plenary Author Meets Critics sessions that include the author (co-author), two or three critics and a chair. Details can be found at this PDF.

If you are interested in potentially organizing such a session, please contact me as soon as viable so that we can see how RC02 can best support your proposal (Aaron.Pitluck at IllinoisState.edu).
