International Sociological Association's Research Committee on Economy & Society

News Alerts for the XX ISA World Congress of Sociology in 2023 (Melbourne)

Each Research Committee is permitted to potentially host up to two semi-plenary Integrative Sessions at the XX ISA World Congress of Sociology. This was a highly competitive process that involves three or more Research Committees or National Associations proposing to co-organize a session. I am pleased to report that RC02 was successful in organizing and promoting two sessions that were both accepted:

  • Postcolonial and Southern Perspectives of Digitalization (RC02, RC09, RC23)

  • Prosumption in Post-COVID-19 societies: An Integrative Session (RC02, RC17, RC24, RC40, RC52)

Accomplishing this goal required quite a bit of help from colleagues. Thank you to Davide Arcidiacono, Nadia Asheulova, Chris Chase-Dunn, Heidi Gottfried, Michelle Hsieh, Allison-Marie Loconto, Ulrike Schuerkens, David Strecker, Zoran Slavnic, and Soraya Vargas.

I’m also pleased to report that our members were active in other Research Committees promoting additional Integrative Sessions. An incomplete list includes:

  • Care, Care work and Migration in Light of the Pandemic and Global Conflicts (RC05, RC19, RC32)

  • De-Centering Global Sociology: The ‘Peripheral Turn’ in Social Theory and Research (RC08, RC16, RC35)

By the end of the June, RC02 and the other Research Committees, Thematic Groups, and Working Groups will be publicizing calls for abstracts and calls for papers for the World Congress. Stay tuned for more information!
