Sociology Compass, an online-only journal publishing peer-reviewed original articles and review articles of the most important research from across the entire discipline, is inviting applications for the role of Section Editor for the Work, Organizations & Economics.

Section Editors work closely with the Editor-in-Chief in helping to steer and manage the journal, playing an active role in journal development. As Section Editor for the Work, Organizations & Economics research area the key responsibility for this role will be to commission and manage the lifecycle of papers through the peer review process. This includes:

  • Securing the submissions of high-quality contributions to the journal within the "Work, Organizations & Economics" research area;

  • Identifying suitable referees, reviewing referees' comments, acting as a reviewer when needed and providing feedback to authors, overseeing an effective, ethical and timely peer review process;

  • Deciding acceptance of manuscripts;

  • Ensuring the quality and soundness of articles published in the journal, by considering their compliance with ethical standards of scientific research, the relevance of the articles to the journal's aim and scope, and the accurate use of research methods;

  • Inviting other appropriate contributions where relevant;

  • Promoting the journal within relevant networks;

  • Liaising with authors, reviewers, the Editor-in-Chief and the Publisher to achieve these goals.

Requirements:

A PhD in Sociology or a closely related field is preferred.

Ideal candidates will have a strong record of publication in journals of good standing and be recognised scholars in the area of Sociology and/or related fields.

Sufficient experience as a reviewer in refereed academic journals is required, and editorial experience either as an Associate Editor and/or Special Issue Editor is desirable.
